Parking Citations

A parking citation may be contested within 10 calendar days from the date of issuance.  A penalty fee of 50% of the original amount of the citation will be added to the amount owed after 15 calendar days of issuance.

Payments may be made:

  • By mail with personal check or money order.  Please make your payment out to "City of San Marcos" and put your citation # in the memo field.
  • By phone with debit or credit card (Visa, Mastercard, or Discover)
  • Online through our payment portal

Contest a Parking Citation

The registered vehicle owner or operator may contest a parking citation in person, or in writing within 10 calendar days  from the date the citation was issued.

Parking Hearings

The City of San Marcos Municipal Court holds parking hearings before our regular dockets. If you wish to appear in person for a parking hearing we must have your request either in person at our office, through the online portal, or in writing. Once the request is received, court staff will schedule the hearing date.

Contest Via Mail

Registered vehicle owners/operators may contest a parking citation by mail, which must be postmarked no later than 10 calendar days from the date the citation was issued.  To contest a violation by mail, send the citation along with all written statements and evidence to:

Disabled Parking Citations

If you received a citation for parking in a disabled parking space while transporting a disabled person and that person had a valid placard at the time, or if the placard or disabled plates have expired, you may bring proof of valid disabled placard or disabled plates registration to our office along with the citation and the disabled person's driver's license or identification card.

If contesting through mail, email, by fax, or through the online portal, please include copies of each of these items front and back for consideration.
