The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires entities that can discharge over 5 million gallons per day of treated wastewater to implement an Industrial Pretreatment Program. The purpose of the IPP is to protect the City Of San Marcos’ wastewater collection system, wastewater treatment plant, and the San Marcos River from pollutants. The Water Quality Department and our IPP accomplishes this by monitoring discharges from industrial and commercial users in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations such as the Clean Water Act.
Beyond monitoring typical industrial users, an important part of the IPP is the Sewer Surcharge Program which monitors restaurants, mechanics, and other select categories of commercial users. You can find more information about the Sewer Surcharge Program by clicking here.
More information on Industrial Pretreatment Programs can be found on the EPA’s website.
