On Monday, Dec. 23 at approximately 6:10 a.m., San Marcos Police Department units responded to an auto-pedestrian collision on northbound IH-35 near the 207-mile marker (just north of Aquarena Springs Drive). A preliminary investigation suggests the pedestrian was attempting to cross IH-35 and was struck by several vehicles. No charges are expected to be filed for the drivers who struck the pedestrian.

The pedestrian has been identified by investigators and SMPD is in the process of locating and notifying next of kin.

Northbound lanes of IH-35 were shut down from the time of the collision for nearly 4 hours during the investigation.

This is the 12th traffic fatality in San Marcos for 2019.
