Library News

High School Equivalency Registration

March 5, 9:00 a.m. or 6:30 p.m.

Adults wanting to prepare for the High School Equivalency exam come register for our free classes. Classes meet Monday through Thursday at 9:00 a.m. and Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 p.m.


LEGO Mania

March 5, 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Grab a bowl full of LEGOs and a base plate and build your dream creation. For ages 4 and up.


Teen Comic Book Workshop

March 5, 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Explore the world of comics and graphic novels in this creative workshop series. Learn how to create a comic and make one of your very own! For 6th through 12th graders. Presented by Paige Hayhurst.


Storytime

March 6, 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

Children are invited to the library for great stories, songs, and fun.


Yarn in the Community

March 6, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Fiber enthusiasts! Bring your own project to share in the camaraderie of others every first Friday of the month!


Baby Storytime

March 6, 12:00 p.m.

An early literacy playgroup for pre-walkers. Join other babies for songs, stories, stretches and playtime!


AARP Tax Aid

March 7, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Trained volunteers from AARP prepare individual tax returns for free at the library. Appointments available and walk-ins welcome. Bring all tax-related documents, including last year’s tax return, social security cards for all dependents, and a photo ID. Make appointment at aarp.org/taxaide.


Job Search and Résumé Assistance

March 8, 1:00 p.m.

Applying for work? This program provides hands-on assistance with your job search, including advice on job seeking, résumé and cover letter writing, networking, and how to apply for jobs. No registration required. This service is free.

For ages 3 to 6. Stories, songs, and fun in English and Spanish. Para niños de 3 a 6 años. Cuentos, canciones, y diversión en inglés y español.


Free Legal Advice from Licensed Attorneys

March 10, 6:00 p.m.

Meet one-on-one with licensed attorneys to receive free legal advice on civil legal problems, such as family, housing, consumer, and caregiver authorization. Everyone will be asked to fill out an application requesting information about you, your financial information, and your legal issue. On-site registration begins at 6:00 p.m.; legal aid starts at 7:00 p.m. Must sign in before 7:00 p.m. to speak with an attorney. Spanish interpreters and a supervised waiting area for children are available.


Workforce Wednesday

March 11, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Your résumé, cover letters, and job searches take time. In response, the library is offering extended hours with professional, personalized assistance, every Wednesday through the spring.


Computer Class

March 11, 10:00 a.m.

Free introductory computer classes in email, Internet searching, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel for adults. Learn how to get started with your iPad or tablet.


Philosophy Dialogues

March 11 4:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Adults participate in a round table discussion with students and faculty of the Texas State University Philosophy Department. Topic: Technology, Truth, and Democracy presented by Larry Hickman.
