The suspect in a fatal hit and run accident in February turned himself in to authorities over the weekend after the San Marcos Police Department (SMPD) obtained a warrant for his arrest.
Antonio Rene Alonzo (DOB 09/08/1996) of San Marcos turned himself in after being issued a warrant for “Accident Involving Death.”
Alonzo is the suspect from a February 29 accident involving a red Chevrolet truck that struck and killed Eligio Vasquez of San Antonio. Except for not reporting the collision, SMPD reports that Alonzo was helpful and forthcoming to the investigation. He was magistrated and released on a $10,000 bond.
“We’re thankful to the community for helping us solve this case which resulted in the death of Mr. Vasquez,” said Interim Police Chief Bob Klett. “Our condolences continue to go out to his family and friends.”
SMPD say this arrest was only possible after a citizen recognized the vehicle from the prior press releases and called with information.
MEDIA NOTE: SMPD is not available for interviews.
