[ARCHIVED] 200 Volunteers Participated in Successful Fall River Clean Up

CoSM Employees during Fall River Clean up

The City’s Neighborhood Enhancement Department, as well as Keep San Marcos Beautiful and the Habitat Conservation Plan, report that almost 200 volunteers picked up trash and recyclable material during the weekend of October 2 - 4 for the Fall River Cleanup.

This year’s cleanup was held over several days during the weekend to provide for COVID-19 social distancing and allowed volunteers to sign up for specific areas to clean. An estimated 2,355 pounds of trash, 565 pounds of recycling, and 8 tires were collected. These weights are based on materials dropped off by volunteers on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Cleanup areas included the San Marcos River from City Park to Stokes Park; Purgatory Creek; Willow Creek; Downtown and drainage ditches along Hopkins Street, Charles Austin Drive, and Hwy 123.

The organizers wish to thank event sponsors: 72° Festival and Gumby’s Pizza.  For information about cleanups, contact Community Enhancement Initiatives Manager Amy Thomaides at athomaides@sanmarcostx.gov
