The San Marcos Fire Department held its third annual Junior Fire Academy camp with 2 one-week sessions in the month of June 2018. The camp was available for boys and girls ages 8 -11.
The mission of the camp was to install servant-leadership, teamwork, self-confidence, citizenship and friendship skills. The campers were introduced to different facets of firefighting and the equipment used in daily operations by members of the fire department. They experienced hands-on activities such as; CPR and bandaged a pretend wound, search and rescue, fire truck rides, and reached new heights in a fully extended bucket truck and ladder safety. The week of fun ended with a Stop, Drop, and Roll clown show, pizza party and award ceremony.
Firefighter Travis Sweet was the ‘Chief’ of both camps along with the assistance of many firefighters and several parent volunteers. Firefighter Sweet said, “It was a whirlwind week of activity and fun was had by all!”
