[ARCHIVED] Community Meeting to be Held Sept. 19 at Activity Center

City Engineers will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 19 in Room 2 of the San Marcos Activity Center, 501 E. Hopkins, at 6 p.m. to introduce residents to a project that will address flooding along Purgatory Creek from South Mitchell Street to the San Marcos River.

This meeting will begin Phase I of the project, the Preliminary Engineering Report (PER). The PER will produce recommendations for the design of flood mitigation and water quality improvements. Improvements will consider channel modifications, bridge or culvert crossing modifications, water quality zones, and multi-use sidewalks and trails.

Purgatory Creek improvements were identified in the City’s Stormwater Master Plan and are funded as a Capital Improvement Project (CIP).

City engineers will give a presentation on the existing conditions in the area and discuss project considerations. Following the presentation will be an opportunity for attendees to talk with engineers and staff to give comments, ask questions and provide feedback.

All interested residents are encouraged to attend.

The PER is scheduled to be completed during first part of 2019, followed by the development of design documents. Construction is anticipated to start in 2020.
