[ARCHIVED] Police Respond to Apparent Murder-Suicide Sunday Morning

City Seal

At approximately 9:30 a.m. today, Sunday, May 5, 2019, the San Marcos Police Department responded to a residence in the 1400 block of Highland Drive to investigate a report of two deceased individuals.

Upon arrival, officers located one male deceased inside the residence with multiple gunshot wounds and a second male deceased in the back yard from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

A friend of both males discovered the victims and notified police just prior to 9:30 a.m. this morning.  Both men were residents of the home, attended Texas State University and were described as close friends.  Next of kin has been notified.

The deceased have been identified as Matthew Bond Pfluger (10.18.94) and Connor Patrick Shannon (11.22.94).

The initial investigation indicates that Pfluger shot Shannon multiple times inside the residence before attempting to kill himself with a knife.  After unsuccessfully attempting suicide with a knife, Pfluger went into the back yard and shot himself in the head.

This is the fourth homicide of 2019 investigated by the San Marcos Police Department and the second murder/suicide incident.
