Library News

GED Registration (Part 2)

July 11, 9:00 a.m.

San Marcos Public Library

Adults wanting to prepare for the GED exam come register for our free classes. Classes meet Monday through Thursday at 9:00 a.m. and Monday and Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. Must have attended Part 1 on July 9.

 

Cosmic Craft

July 11, 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

San Marcos Public Library

For all ages. Kids under five will need adult help. Crafts take 20 to 30 minutes to complete. All supplies provided.

 

Summer Science

July 11, 3:00 p.m.

San Marcos Public Library

Hands-on workshops introduce science topics and encourage curiosity. This day’s topic will be hydroponic science. For ages 8 to 14. Registration required.

 

Chess Night

July 11, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

San Marcos Public Library

All ages and skill levels are welcome. The library provides chess sets, clocks, and basic instruction.

 

Storytime

July 12, 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

Children are invited to the library for great stories, songs, and fun.

 

Baby Storytime

An early literacy playgroup for pre-walkers. Join other babies for songs, stories, stretches and playtime!

 

LEGO Mania

July 12, 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

San Marcos Public Library

Grab a bowl full of LEGOs and a base plate and build your dream creation. For ages 4 and up.

 

Saber Guild

July 13, 2:00 p.m.

San Marcos Public Library

Jedi and Sith collide in the library with an interactive Jedi experience brought to you by Jakku Temple, a LucasFilm-recognized Star Wars performance group. 2 pm - fan film showing, 2:15 pm - Interactive Jedi Experience, 3 pm - fan film encore showing. Free ticket required, available June 28.


Free Dance Classes

July 15, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

San Marcos Public Library

Creative Dance fusing elements of various dance forms such as Jazz, Hip-Hop, Ballet, and Modern Dance. These classes will focus on the relationship of body to space and cultivate esteem toward expressing with the body. Some fun elements that will enhance the dancing curriculum are drawing, vocalizing, improvising, and using music as inspiration for “creating a dance,” also known as choreography. Multiple dance classes for ages 5-17. Limited space available. Registration required.


Teen Anime Club

July 15, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

San Marcos Public Library

If you love anime, manga, or Japanese pop culture, come join us for a fun time watching anime films. Socialize, meet new friends, and discuss your favorite series. Light refreshments provided. Ages 12-17.


Medicare Made Easy

July 16, 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

San Marcos Public Library

Take the guesswork out of applying for Medicare. Discover Medicare options, eligibility rules, and signup time frames at this free, educational workshop. Let Kurt Schick, Medicare and retirement solutions expert, make Medicare easy.

Family Night! Fired Up About Reading

San Marcos firefighters visit the library with hot stories and cool trucks. Learn about the technology they use for rescues. Family Night happens every Tuesday at 7 p.m. in June and July. Each week features a different event for your family to enjoy together.


Computer Class

July 17, 10:00 a.m.

San Marcos Public Library

Free introductory computer classes in email, Internet searching, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel for adults. Learn how to get started with your iPad or tablet.

 

Early Literacy Festival

July 17, 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

A festival of fun to celebrate the magic of early childhood, with age-appropriate activities and early literacy strategies families can use at home. Check your progress towards your 1000 books, or sign your child up for a 1000 Books Before Kindergarten library card. Let’s get every child ready to read!


Let’s Move!

July 17, 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Learn basic yoga poses for exercise, calming, and concentration. Bring a mat or towel to sit on. Ages 5-10. Registration required.

Adult Creative Camp

July 17, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

San Marcos Public Library

Adult Creative Camp is open to any skill level. Explore your creativity and expression, with encouragement and support. The camp will include visual and written expression, including poetry, collage, songwriting, watercolors, and calligraphy. You will end camp with a book of your own creations.
