Mission

To inform and educate the public about the uniqueness and diversity of the San Marcos River Watershed ecosystem, in an effort to conserve and restore the watershed and its indigenous wildlife.

About the San Marcos Nature Center (SMNC)

The SMNC is a cooperative program of the City of San Marcos and Texas State University.  We are located at Crook Park on the corner of IH-35 and Riverside Drive, which is also the birding trail head for the San Marcos River.  The SMNC has a variety of indoor animal exhibits and an outdoor Wildscape of native plants and animals found in he San Marcos area.  Our Wildscape features two ponds, many theme gardens and serves as an outdoor learning center for all ages.

What can you do here?

Take a tour amongst our living library of native plant species.

Sign up for a floral or gardening workshop, or a seminar that promotes the use of native plants and sustainable landscaping techniques.

Enroll your child in one of our environmental education programs.
