Adult Pickleball Open Play

Adult Pickleball is now offered from 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays . Participants are no longer required to sign up to reserve a time slot to play. The Adult Pickleball program is open play for ages 18 and up. At this time, we have six courts available for Pickleball, two in each gym. The gyms are no longer designated as competitive or recreational, everyone plays with everyone. Participants must bring their own paddles and ball. All players must agree that they have read and understand the City of San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department Release and Waiver of Liability and will have to agree to the waiver when attending Pickleball at the Activity Center. The Adult Pickleball Open Play rules and guidelines are subject to change without notice.

Book Matchmaking

Let our librarians play matchmaker! Take a chance and let us set you up on a book date. If you’re lucky, you may even find your next favorite book or author! Fill out the linked form to participate. Based on your preferences we will place two books on hold for you. You must have a San Marcos Public Library card to participate.

Early Literacy Playroom

Children learn through play! Families can explore hands-on activities designed to teach early literacy skills to children under 5. Walk-in appointments available Mon-Sat, 10 am until 1 hour before the library closes. Limited to one group at a time, for one hour. Disinfected daily.

Growing Up Wild

Join us for stories and hands-on activities about trees, their life cycles, and their importance as habitats.

Urban Sketching Series

Join local artist Michael Hannon and other adults for this series on Urban Sketching. Each class will take place at a different venue around San Marcos. The November 3rd class will meet in front of the library, where participants will receive a class itinerary and sketch the front of the library. For ages 18 and up. Registration required. *Not affiliated with the Urban Sketchers organization.

Seed Library Grand Opening and Native Seed & Cuttings Giveaway

Improve your seed supply by joining us for a seed swap! We have a huge stock of seed packets and fifty native cuttings to give away. No need to bring seeds to join in the fun! Adults and children are invited to paint rocks to help decorate the seed library’s post pot. The Little Free Seed Library and this program will be outdoors in the children’s courtyard.

First Wednesday Book Club

Adults gather once a month to discuss a book chosen by the group. October 6 - Crossing to Safety by Wallace Stegner. November 3- Nomadland: Surviving America in the 21st Century by Jessica Bruder. December 1 - Deck the Hounds by David Rosenfelt.

Philosophy Dialogues

Adults participate in a round table discussion with students and faculty of the Texas State University Philosophy Department. Topic: Ideological Pathogens and Propaganda presented by Jonathan Surovell.

Chess Night

All ages and skill levels are welcome to attend for casual chess games. Chess sets and clocks are provided so attendees only need to bring themselves.

San Marcos Fiber Arts

Join this group to enjoy the fiber craft of your choosing and meet other fiber-loving folks. Bring your own fiber projects to work on. Meets every Wednesday.
