Evening Hours on Wednesdays

San Marcos residents can have their day in court at night as the Municipal Court extends its Wednesday hours until 8 p.m.

The Municipal Court service window stays open until 8 p.m. on Wednesdays for defendants to make arrangements to handle their tickets, including paying tickets, setting up payment plans and arranging for court appearances.

Municipal Court staff accepts payments, bonds, and proof requirements for ticket dismissal, and driving safety course requests.

Municipal Court Judge John Burke also holds an evening plea docket on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. 

“By staying open late at least one evening a week, we will better serve those citizens who cannot take off from work or school to attend to their court matters,” said Judge Burke.

Officer Rusty Grice serves as a warrant officer and bailiff for the court and Susie Garcia is Municipal Court Clerk.

Agencies Join Great Texas Warrant Roundup

San Marcos Police and City Marshal’s office are joining over 200 law enforcement agencies across Texas for a warrant roundup beginning March 6, 2010 for people wanted for failure to comply with court orders and failure to appear at court to address charges filed against them.

Defendants with outstanding warrants for traffic violations, city ordinance violations and other violations filed at Municipal Court are urged to contact the court immediately to avoid arrest at home, work or school.

“We urge anyone who has delinquent cases in San Marcos Municipal Court to contact the court to take care of the matter immediately,” said Rusty Grice, Deputy Marshal with the San Marcos Marshal’s office.

The warrant roundup was announced Friday, February 19, at several press conferences across the state. Postcards will be sent to thousands of defendants in the coming week encouraging them to contact the appropriate court to avoid arrest and possibly lose their driver’s license.

“People who fail to address tickets at court or fail to comply with court orders are reported to the Texas Department of Public Safety for non-renewal of their driver’s licenses,” said Susie Garcia, Municipal Court Administrator.

Defendants with charges pending in the San Marcos Municipal Court may come to the court during operational hours to pay fines or post bond to schedule a court appearance. The Municipal Court accepts cash, checks, money orders, cashier’s checks, Visa, Master Card, and Discover. The court is located on the second floor of the Municipal Building, at 630 E. Hopkins, San Marcos.

Mailed payments should include driver’s license number and case or ticket number to ensure proper credit. Do not send cash through the mail. Payments may be mailed to Municipal Court, City of San Marcos, 630 E. Hopkins, San Marcos, Texas 78666.

The Municipal Court customer service window is open Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with extended hours on Wednesdays until 8 p.m. The court will hold special docket sessions on Monday March 1 from  10 a.m. – 12 noon;  Wednesday March 3, from  6 – 8 p.m and Friday March 5 from 2 – 4 p.m. to give people an opportunity to appear before the municipal judge.
