A community on the move

The City of San Marcos has more than 20 departments and divisions employing approximately 500 personnel to serve the community. The goal of all city departments is to support the initiatives of the City Council and City Manager, to provide prompt, courteous service to the citizens, and protect the safety and welfare of citizens and visitors alike.

Airport Facilities at the airport offer full airframe and powerplant repairs, all avionics repair and installation, new aircraft sales, pilot support and supplies.
Animal Services Provides pet adoption services, issues pet licenses, and handles animal-related complaints.
Capital
Improvements

Responsible for the planning, design, and construction of the City’s Capital Improvement projects.

City Clerk Responsible for giving notice and recording City Council meetings, maintaining official records and documents, administering City elections, and offers vital statistics services.
City Manager Provides staff support to the City Manager, implements the priorities and programs of the City Council, communicates with the public and media, and assist citizens.
Electric Utility Electric Utility is operated as a City department, with policies and electric rates established by the City Council.

Finance

Purchasing

Responsible for safeguarding assets, overseeing revenue collections, utility billing, property tax administration, purchasing, investments, fixed asset management and financial reporting.
Fire Department Dedicated to providing a well-trained, motivated, and diverse team who deliver prevention, educational programs, and emergency response services to our community in a safe, responsible, and efficient manner.
Emergency Management The Office of Emergency Management (OEM)coordinates and responds to all major and catastrophic emergencies within the City of San Marcos.
Environmental Health Regulates and inspects food establishments, day care centers, public swimming pools, on-site sewage facilities.
Human Resources The Human Resources Department helps ensure a fair and equitable workplace for the 500+ employees of the City of San Marcos and protects the assets of the City through its risk management program.
Legal Provide legal advice to the City Council,Boards and Commissions, and to City staff members on municipal issues.
Library

The public library provides the community with free access to a diverse collection of library materials, research assistance, public computers with internet and Microsoft Office applications, wireless Internet service, children activities, GED and ESL tutoring, computer classes, book clubs, and concerts.

Main Street A developmental program designed to capitalize on the unique character of the downtown commercial districtand address the needs of downtown San Marcos.
Marshals Office

The San Marcos Marshals Office is an organization that is responsible for the operation and management of Code Enforcement, Court Bailiff, Fire Marshal, Fire Prevention, Park Rangers and Emergency Management.

Municipal Court Municipal Court is responsible for the judicial enforcement of all Class "C" misdemeanor laws.
Parks & Recreation Responsible for delivering parks and recreational services, annual programs, classes, special events and activities.
Permit Center

The Permit Center provides a one-stop location for most of the City's permitting needs for new and altered building construction, site work, trade permitting, roofing, demolition, certificate of occupancy, pools, fences, landscape irrigation and signs.

Provides land use planning services; processes subdivision and development plans; current and long-range planning services.
Police Enforces state and local criminal laws; crime suppression/detection in the City and other police activities.
Transportation Responsible for the maintenance and repair of City streets, sidewalks, drainage, traffic signals, pavement markings, signs, vehicles, equipment and management of residential solid waste collection and drainage utility.
Utility Services Provides electric, water, and wastewater services to the San Marcos community.
Water/ Wastewater Promotes water conservation and works closely with agencies such as the GBRA, the Edwards Aquifer Authority, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and other organizations to develop regional water policies.
Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Providing breastfeeding support, nutritional education, supplemental WIC foods, and referrals to other health and social service agencies.
